PodSummit 2020 Update

Hello podcasters!

We’ve been in the planning stages for a while, and are sad to announce there will be no PodSummit in 2020.

Due to the viral outbreak, we’d rather have you come and leave healthy than risk you getting the flu.

We will be back for 2021, with a fresh new look, updated topics, and a curated group of stellar speakers.

Now, here’s the deal!

We ran the conference for three years and received your constructive feedback. At the same time, we ran into a series of random issues, as all events do.

For 2021, we would love to bring you an amazing experience you’ll love!

If you can take a minute or two and just comment below with what you would like to see in PodSummit 2021, we’d love to make it a reality for you.

What kind of topics, speakers, and experiences would make this an event you’ll love?

Thank you,

– ernest.

PodSummit 2019 Prizes & Sponsors

Every year, we partner with amazing organizations that help us make PodSummit a reality.

This year, we are privileged to work with Graphos, Heil Sound, Hindenburg Systems, Transistor.fm, Podia, Alberta Podcast Network, PodNews, and Media Lab YYC.

Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to make PodSummit work.

This year, our partners have been gracious enough to give away some amazing prizes as well!! Here is what we have to give away:

Podcast Branding Package

Sponsored by Graphos

You know how much difference good podcast branding makes, and now you have an opportunity to win a professionally designed branding package from Graphos!

It includes a Podcast Cover Image (square and wide screen), as a Professional VO Intro and Extro for your show!

Hindenburg Journalist PRO

Sponsored by Hindenburg Systems

This year, we are really excited to give away TWO Journalist PRO subscriptions. Hindenburg has been making software for radio producers for over a decade.

Their Journalist and Journalist PRO editing software is really easy to use, has radio and podcast specific features including auto-voice-EQ, and you can learn it in about an hour (video tutorial series).

We are giving away TWO Journalist PRO 2-year subscriptions.

Hindenburg Journalist Trials

Sponsored by Hindenburg Systems

If that wasn’t enough… Hindenburg is also giving away a three-month subscription of their Journalist editing and production software to ALL ATTENDEES!

Heil PR40 Microphone

Sponsored by Heil Sound

We are excited to give away one of the most popular microphones, used by hundreds of professional podcasters across the world.

Heil PR40 was engineered for broadcasting applications, and Bob Heil (the founder) built it in such a way that it closely represents the sound of a condenser microphone but in a dynamic microphone package!

This means you can sound fantastic AND cut out background noise.

Podcast Hosting Packages

Sponsored by Transistor.FM

Lots of our friends from the Alberta Podcast Network and Media Lab YYC use Transistor for hosting their shows, and now you can too. You’ll be in good company with Cards Against Humanity, VH1, and Honeybadger.

Transistor’s team is constantly striving to build a better product, and take customer service very seriously. That’s part of the reason their podcast players and websites are some of the best available today.

We are giving away a year-long Starter hosting package.

Lifetime discount for courses and memberships

Sponsored by Podia

If you want to monetize your show, online courses and memberships are one of the smartest ways to do so. You don’t have to chase after advertisers, or sponsors.

Podia has created an online platform that makes it incredibly easy to set up an online course, membership, or sell digital downloads.

No technical headaches, zero transaction fees, and unlimited everything.

We are giving away a 15% discount FOR LIFE to all attendees.

Try it out for free, and if you like it, you also get a lifetime discount!

Work Nicer Co-working Passes & Packages

Sponsored by Work Nicer

Now operating in Calgary and Edmonton, Work Nicer is one of the most desired and sought after co-working spaces in Alberta. Their community approach, and amazing spaces have placed them firmly in the coworking elite.

PodSummit 2019 MC: Meet Kyle Marshall

This year, we have an amazing podcaster and podcast supporter joining us to take over the MC duties.

Kyle Marshall is the owner of Media Lab YYC – a studio space for podcasters and video-makers. He opened the doors in 2017, and handles recording and production for content producers as well as businesses who want to create a content footprint, but need some help.

He attended the University of Lethbridge and received a Bachelor’s degree in English. However, Kyle has been passionate about online video and podcasting for over a decade.

Kyle currently hosts Creative Block (where he interviews artists and creative entrepreneurs) and Putting It Together (where he analyzes the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim show by show and song by song.)

He is well connected in the podcasting community, and we are really excited to have Kyle take over the reigns of hosting PodSummit 2019!

You can find Kyle on Twitter, Instagram, and at Media Lab YYC.

Art Of Podcasting with Andreas Schwabe

An AMAZING storyteller, with a rich broadcast background, and super practical insights to take your show from good to great!

Last year, a few folks had an opportunity to experience Andreas’ talk. We laughed, we cried, we jotted down notes furiously. You are going to love hearing about his podcast, My Beautiful Cyborg.

That podcast has now led to international speaking opportunities and media appearances, on top of connecting with a strong community that supports the show.

You will learn:

  • How to outline your show to keep your listener’s attention
  • How to use your voice to create a close relationship with listeners.
  • How to use powerful storytelling techniques to stand out from the crowd.

Quick Bio:

For thirty years Andreas has worked in broadcasting, both on air, in front of and behind the camera. From 1996 to 2000 he was a full-time radio writing and production instructor at NAIT.

Andreas left NAIT to join the Oilers as Director of Digital Media (the first full-time webmaster in the NHL). In 2008 he shifted away from strictly web/content and more toward strategic and tactical communications in post-secondary administration. Currently, he work as the director of media services for Graphos.

As a producer, his focus is – surprise – production. Every podcast has its focus, and the focus provides a lot of direction or content.

You know what you want to say. But HOW do you want to say it? That’s production.

You can connect with Andreas on Twitter, or tune into My Beautiful Cyborg.
